Recover deleted photos on Android

If the recently deleted folder came up empty, your photos may still be on your device — here’s how to find them.

Anúncios

When you delete a photo on Android, the file isn’t immediately destroyed. The system marks that space as available — but the data stays put until something new writes over it.

That gap is your recovery window. On Android it can last weeks. The key is to act before anything else gets written to your storage.

⚠ Do this first

Stop using your phone right now. Every photo you take, every app you open, every update you install risks overwriting the deleted file permanently.

Before you scan — check these first

Many photos are recovered without any app at all. Work through these in order before running a scan.

Anúncios

1
Check Google Photos bin Open Google Photos → Library → Bin. Photos stay here for 60 days if backup is on, 30 days if off.
2
Check your phone’s gallery trash Samsung Gallery, OnePlus Gallery and others have their own recycle bin. Look for a trash icon in the app menu.
3
Check messaging apps If you sent the photo via WhatsApp or iMessage, the recipient still has it. Ask them to forward it back.
4
Check other cloud services Amazon Photos, Dropbox and OneDrive sync automatically. Log in and search — the photo may already be there.

If none of that worked — use DiskDigger

DiskDigger scans your Android storage at a low level, finding photo fragments that haven’t been overwritten yet. It’s free, requires no account, and shows you thumbnails before you recover anything.

How to use it

1
Baixe o DiskDigger na Google Play. Free to download and scan. No sign-in required.
2
Tap “Start basic photo scan” The basic scan (no root needed) searches cache and thumbnail data. Takes 1–3 minutes.
3
Browse the results You’ll see thumbnails of everything recoverable. Select only what you need.
4
Save to a new location Save to Google Drive or a different folder — not the same place the files were deleted from.
✓ Tip

If the basic scan doesn’t find your photos, tap “Search for lost files” from the main menu. It scans deeper and often recovers photos from weeks ago.

Why Android gives you the best odds

Unlike iPhone, Android gives recovery apps more direct access to internal storage. This means DiskDigger can scan deeper — sometimes recovering photos deleted weeks ago, especially on devices where encryption isn’t fully enabled.

The sooner you run the scan, the better your chances. A phone that hasn’t been used since the deletion will almost always return better results than one that has been in active use.

Make sure this never happens again

Open Google Photos, tap your profile icon, go to Photos Settings → Backup and make sure it’s on. Google gives you 15 GB free and syncs automatically on Wi-Fi.

For extra protection, add Amazon Photos (free unlimited storage for Prime members) or Dropbox as a second backup. Two copies in two places makes permanent photo loss nearly impossible.
