Recover deleted photos on iPhone

Deleted photos on iPhone aren’t always gone. Here’s how to find them — starting with the easiest options first.

iOS keeps deleted photos in a protected folder for 30 days before removing them permanently. Even after that window closes, traces often remain in your iCloud backup — and that’s exactly where recovery tools look.

Work through the steps below in order. Most people find their photos before even needing an app.

⚠ Haz esto primero

Stop using your phone and turn on airplane mode. Every message received, every app opened risks writing new data that makes recovery harder.

Check these built-in options first

1
Check the Recently Deleted album Open Photos → Albums → scroll down to Recently Deleted. Apple holds photos here for 30 days. Tap Select → choose photos → Recover.
2
Check iCloud.com Open icloud.com in any browser, sign in, go to Photos → Recently Deleted. Sometimes photos appear here even after leaving your device.
3
Revisa las aplicaciones de mensajería If you sent the photo via iMessage or WhatsApp, the recipient still has it. Ask them to forward it — takes 30 seconds.
4
Consulta otros servicios en la nube Amazon Photos, Dropbox and OneDrive sync automatically. Log in and search before running any recovery tool.

If those didn’t work — use Dr.Fone

Dr.Fone is one of the most trusted recovery apps for iPhone. It scans your iCloud backup and local device data to find photos that have been deleted — even past the 30-day window — and lets you preview everything before restoring.

Cómo usarlo

1
Download Dr.Fone from the App Store Free to download. No account required to run a basic scan.
2
Select “Recover from iCloud” Sign in with your Apple ID. Dr.Fone will load your most recent backup automatically.
3
Browse and preview Filter by Photos and Camera Roll. You’ll see thumbnails of everything recoverable before restoring anything.
4
Seleccionar y restaurar Choose the photos you want and restore directly to your Camera Roll.
⚠ Verificar primero

This works best if iCloud backup was active before the photos were deleted. Go to Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → iCloud Backup to check your last backup date.

✓ Consejo

If iCloud backup is off, try the “Recover from Device” option in Dr.Fone — it scans your phone’s local storage directly and often finds photos the iCloud method misses.

Why iPhone recovery is different from Android

iOS restricts direct storage access for third-party apps — which means recovery on iPhone works primarily through your backup data rather than scanning raw storage. This is why having iCloud backup enabled makes such a big difference.

If your backup predates the deletion, Dr.Fone can pull the photos from it without affecting anything currently on your device. The scan is read-only — it won’t overwrite or delete anything.

Asegúrate de que esto no vuelva a suceder.

Ir a Ajustes → [Tu nombre] → iCloud → Copia de seguridad de iCloud and make sure it’s on. Your iPhone will back up automatically every night while charging on Wi-Fi.

Also enable Fotos de iCloud under Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Photos. This keeps a full-resolution copy of every photo in the cloud at all times — completely separate from the device backup.

With both enabled, permanently losing a photo becomes nearly impossible no matter what happens to your phone.
