Recover deleted photos on iPhone

Deleted photos on iPhone aren’t always gone. Here’s how to find them — starting with the easiest options first.

iOS keeps deleted photos in a protected folder for 30 days before removing them permanently. Even after that window closes, traces often remain in your iCloud backup — and that’s exactly where recovery tools look.

Work through the steps below in order. Most people find their photos before even needing an app.

⚠ Do this first

Stop using your phone and turn on airplane mode. Every message received, every app opened risks writing new data that makes recovery harder.

Check these built-in options first

Check the Recently Deleted album Open Photos → Albums → scroll down to Recently Deleted. Apple holds photos here for 30 days. Tap Select → choose photos → Recover.

Check iCloud.com Open icloud.com in any browser, sign in, go to Photos → Recently Deleted. Sometimes photos appear here even after leaving your device.

Check messaging apps If you sent the photo via iMessage or WhatsApp, the recipient still has it. Ask them to forward it — takes 30 seconds.

Check other cloud services Amazon Photos, Dropbox and OneDrive sync automatically. Log in and search before running any recovery tool.

Why iPhone recovery is different from Android

iOS restricts direct storage access for third-party apps — which means recovery on iPhone works primarily through your backup data rather than scanning raw storage. This is why having iCloud backup enabled makes such a big difference.

If your backup predates the deletion, Dr.Fone can pull the photos from it without affecting anything currently on your device. The scan is read-only — it won’t overwrite or delete anything.

Make sure this never happens again
